Defence Studies

Introduction

The Department of Defence Studies was started in 2013 in Government Arts College (Autonomous), Coimbatore. It is a Multi – Disciplinary Course which concentrates on the fields such as National Security related issues, International Relations, Geo Politics, Fundamentals of War and Peace, etc. It gives exposure to the in-depth analysis of contemporary events and issues in this Multilateral, Unpredictable World.
It is broadly conceived to encompass all issues – both domestic and strategic – that can affect our national defense and security interests. It will initiate the young students and help them in understanding the nuances of defence and security matters. Since 2013, a total of 5 Batches have passed out and settled in various jobs related to Defence Studies. Some of the students are pursuing higher studies in well-known Universities. The students in this department are so enthusiastic in extending their role in nation – building process. The faculty members are highly trained and qualified professionals. The department library provides lots of books, articles and magazines to enhance the students’ knowledge. Curriculum is it helpful in cracking Civil Service Exams in both Central and State levels. This discipline provides prospective career options like military analyst. The number of aspirants choosing the stream is increasing in number gradually.

Infrastructure

Department of Defence Studies provides various platforms for the students to excel in their academics. Department has unique feature of Smart class system where students are provided with visual knowledge regarding their subjects. The general library of the college provides various books related to our department which helps students in many ways. In addition to the college General library, the department has its own library with 205 books, where students have regular attendance of borrowing books which adds flavour to their knowledge.
It also provides basic amenities like computers and printers which engages the students in department related activities. The college has a general lab where our students utilise to do academic activities which strength their morale to succeed in their academics. Moreover the platform provided to the students helps in accumulation of knowledge and for the welfare of the students.
